FAQ

How do you make iced coffee from Grady’s Cold Brew?
Directions are on the back of the bottle. We suggest mixing our concentrate with an equal amount of milk (skim, whole, soy, almond, etc.) or cold water and pouring over ice. Add sugar to taste.

How many cups does one bottle make?
It makes eight cups, if you mix four ounces of concentrate with four ounces of milk or water.

How long does Grady’s Cold Brew last?
A bottle will last for one month refrigerated.

What is cold brewing?
Cold brewing is a process in which coffee is brewed by soaking grounds in cold water overnight. After steeping, the coffee is filtered to separate the grounds and silt from the liquid.

What makes it special?
Cold brewing produces a totally unique (and, in our opinion, superior) taste to heat brewing. When heat is used to brew iced coffee, it releases acids and oils that are intensified when the coffee is cooled down in the refrigerator. The result is a bitter brew with a short shelf life. Cold brewing, on the other hand, produces an intense but smooth flavor that mixes perfectly with milk and lasts two weeks in the refrigerator.

What makes it New Orleans–style?
The cold-brewed concentrate and addition of chicory make it New Orleans–style. Chicory is the root of the endive plant. It has been roasted, ground, and brewed for centuries as a substitute for coffee. Originally used when coffee was scarce or too expensive, chicory is now beloved for its natural subtle sweetness and ability to mellow out dark-coffee roasts.

Can you make hot coffee with Grady’s Cold Brew?
Yes. It works best mixed with milk. To make one serving, heat 3/4 to 1 cup milk in a saucepan or microwave to just below boiling, then add concentrate (about 1/4 cup) to taste. They call this café au lait in New Orleans.

Does chicory have caffeine?
No, there is no caffeine in chicory, but Grady’s Cold Brew is caffeinated.

Do you make a decaf version?
Not yet, but we are working on it. Check back for updates.

Where do you get your beans?
Our coffee is sourced from Porto Rico Importing Co., a Greenwich Village institution since 1907.

Do you ship?
Yes, with a two-bottle minimum. Because we want to get the cold brew to you when it’s still fresh, we have to ship using Priority Mail, which adds $15 to any order.

Do you accept bottle returns?
Yes, you can swap out your old bottle for a new one for a $2 discount.
